ANDREW SMITH

My career began at HMP Altcourse where I worked as a Prison Officer/Dog handler for 7 years.

I then served for the Department of Defense as a contractor for the United States government, supporting troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, and soon took over the role of Kennel Master at Shindand Airbase. When my deployment ended I was asked to stay as a handler to reopen Camp Union III in Baghdad.

I have recently been awarded North American Police Working Dog Association membership and am the only British member to date to have done so.

After 10 years in the army, I left in 2017 and went to the Malpeet Academy and completed NASDU Drug Detection Dog (DD) and General Purpose (GP) Dog handling courses. I have worked at festivals and with local authorities, achieving many confirmed finds in both drugs and articles. I've taken part in almost 200 police search warrants, with both my GP and DD dogs.

Earlier this year I became an EDD handler (Explosive Detection Dog) handler.

Wimbledon, Silverstone, football stadium searches and music festivals are examples of recent work scenarios  I've been part of.

I also hold a BSc in Canine Behaviour and Psychology.
